November 19, 2007 - Elevator Push-Rods

I went over to Bruce's shop and we drilled the holes in the elevator forward push-rod.  Bruce has one of those tube-drilling jigs.  With two people, a drill press and the jib, the job was a piece of cake.

At home, the next challenge was to get the forward push-rod in place.  This particular task is so challenging, in fact, that there was a piece on it in the RViator.  The first suggestion -- remove the rod-end bearings from each end -- helped but was not enough.  So I tired suggestion #2:  drilling a 3/4" hole in the F-707 lower bulkhead.  I did that with the Unibit, and after widening it slightly with the Dremel too., the push-rod slid right in, no problem.

And there it is.

Just thought I'd show you the tools that I have used so often to make holes of various sizes.  I start off with the #40 bit, then #30, then narrow Unitbit, then fat Unibit up to 3/4".  If more is required, I use the Dremel tool with the cylinder bit.
