September 3, 2004 - Wing Skins |
||||
It's hard to see but I am measuring the distance from the top of the outboard rib to the plumb bob string. You know there is no twist in the wing when this distance is the same as the distance from the inboard rib measurement. My measurements were equal at 1.8 inches. |

The left wing in the jib, all clamped down, with no twist.
I took the tire jack out of my Miata to use for the wing. I just put new
tires on the Miata so I'm banking on not getting a flat. Knock on wood.

Next step is to make a wing walk doubler (so you can step on the wing when you're climbing into the cockpit). Van's supplies the .025 aluminum sheet material. I had to cut it down to 9 3/8" by 26". Piece of cake.
Then I had to match drill it with the inboard skin. I taped it to the bottom of the inboard skin, then drilled. No big deal.
It's getting fun now. Hanging the inboard skin. You can't see the wing walk doubler on the right side but it's there. This is where you really appreciate the magic of the laser-guided pre-drilled holes. The skin holes match the rib flange holes about as perfectly as you could hope for.
