May 30, 2009 - RV Maintenance

While I'm waiting for some D-Sub pins to arrive, I went ahead and replaced the stock oil cooler that came with the Firewall Forward kit with the more capable Stewart Warner 8406R.

It only required a little bit of trimming.  Took about an hour.

The Stewart Warner has much more little folds than its predecessor.  More folds equals more surface area which means better cooling.

I discovered a cut in the crank sensor wire bundle, obviously caused by being too close to the spinner plate.

In order to repair it, there was no choice but to remove the prop.  First I had to cut and remove the safety-wire.

In the past I had Lynnette help me with the prop.  There's almost no way one person could simultaneously lift the prop and get the bolts started.  This time I tried using Bruce's engine hoist.  It worked like a champ.

After removing the prop, I removed the starter plate -- it just slides on -- which gave me access to the wire bundle.

No question about it, the wire bundle had been cut about halfway through.  I cut it, then striped the six wires on each end.

Just a shot of the prop backside for future reference.

A shot of the crank sensor apparatus.  This came installed with the Mattituck engine.
