September 23, 2006 - Helping with an engine install |
||||||
This Saturday I was planning to fly out to the Flying Cow Airpark and get
my Ka-8 vintage glider annualled, then fly to Montgomery County Airport (GAI)
and help a fellow RV builder with his engine install. The
weather was too crummy for flying so I ended up driving.
Mike R. is building an RV-7A and bought a Mattituck IO-360 to power it. Here's a good look at his firewall. He bolted the engine to the engine mount first, and using a hoist, is now about to attach it to the firewall. |

A shot of the awesome looking TMX-IO-360. This baby is loaded with
fuel injection, dual Lightspeed ignition and the Red/Gold package.
Sweet!

I took this shot to help me when I install my static air system.

Later on we celebrated the day's success with some wings and beer. I really learned a lot helping Mike with the engine install. Hopefully I can remember the lessons learned when it comes time to install my engine, which I'm thinking I will order at Sun 'N Fun. I'm also planning on getting a Mattituck. It will probably be carburated, with a single Lightspeed ignition, and a conventional Slick mag. |

Just catty-corner to Mike's hangar was Gus Macleod's hangar. Gus Macleod flew an open-cockpit Stearman to the North Pole a few years ago, and also flew the Firefly on the right to Antarctica. | ||||||
