September 19, 2006 - Fuel Tank Service Bulletin

With the fuel tanks currently off the wings, this was a good time to take care of the fuel tank service bulletin, which calls for safetying the fuel pickup tube assembly nut.  To do that, I needed a bolt head/nut drilling jib.  No big deal, just another tool you have to buy.  Here's a picture of the jig and the #53 bits used with it.
With the right tool, the job was a snap.

You may remember, I bought the pre-built fuel tanks, so the cover plates were just screwed on and not sealed.   I'm probably just going to get rid of the cork and proseal the cover plates to the tanks.  Same with the fuel gauge thing.
When I order something from Vans, Avery, Cleaveland or Spruce, I usually get some other stuff to help defray the shipping costs.  This time I ordered some rudder fairings.  Some people make their own, but for $10 I just did store-bought.
I needed #10 taps for the cabin frame.  But I was able to borrow them from my father-in-law and didn't have to buy them.
Tapping the aft two holes in the cabin frame.
Also from Avery Tools, I ordered this set of plastic drill bits, for when I start work on the canopy.
