May 31 - Blue Angels | ||||||
It's that time of year of our annual office "watch the Blue Angels from the water" party. Here we are anchored off Annapolis a few hours before the Blue Angels arrive. Weather couldn't have been better. Sunny but not too hot and light winds. Newman, Erika and Bill B. ready to party hard.
Today was Show day, as opposed to the practice day like
last year. There were hundreds of boats on the water.
And there they are. Having done some formation work this year, it's just amazing for me to see such big aircraft so close together. It's ridiculous!
Perfect, just perfect.
All too soon the show was over, and boats started leaving.
We got underway and headed out into the Chesapeake Bay to check out a Navy destroyer. Erika is explaining a difficult concept to Joe A.
There were buoys around the ship that you had to stay
outboard of. The Navy didn't want any boats getting in close to the
ship for obvious reasons.
This is an Arleigh Burke class Destroyer. The USS Donald Cook (DDG-75)
There were quite a few merchants on the water.
| ||||||
We headed back to Annapolis and cruised up the famous "Ego Alley". First time I've been up Ego Alley on a boat.
Ego Alley is basically Annapolis's Inner Harbor. It's called Ego Alley because people like to cruise their big expensive boats in here and show off.
The Naval Academy's Halsey Field house. I was dropped off in front of Halsey Field house on the morning of July 6, 1977 and my world changed completely.
