April 2010 - The New P-8 Poseidon

Well, it's been a long time coming.  The replacement for the venerable P-3 Orion -- which arrived in the fleet in the early 60s -- is finally in the air.  This is a shot of one of the new P-8 Poseidon's over Patuxtent River Naval Air Station.  It's going through testing for fleet introduction in 2012.  As you can probably figure out, it's basically a modified Boeing 737.

A closer look.

Not a bad looking airplane.

The old P-3 still looks good too, though.
