July 31, 2008 - Polishing |

I was kind of stuck in a rut with the firewall forward stuff -- spending lots of hours and not making much progress. As a result, I was getting discouraged and not putting in the hours. A vicious circle. To break out, I decided to try the Nuvite polish out. I reviewed the instructions and DVD. I broke out the circular and orbital buffers, polishing cloths and G6 & S polish. First I had to peel off the blue plastic covering. Here's a before shot on the left side.

Aftwards. I rubbed down the
skin with acetone to remove the ink lettering and sharpie
marks.

Then I went to work. First
apply the G6 compounding agent with the circular buffer. Then polish
using the S polish and cyclo orbital buffer. It was hot and humid in
the garage. But I must say, it came out pretty well! This
represents two nights of
work.

In the DVD, they have a guy shaving, using his Globe Swift fuselage as a mirror. I wouldn't say this is mirror quality, but it's close.
This is the unpolished left side. Still fairly shiny because it's alcad-covered aluminum and just had the protective plastic peeled off.
The polishing has restored my momentum so I'm going to stick with it and finish the fuselage, then do the wing tops. From there, I'm going to start painting the wings and empennage.
