August 2, 2008 - Start Polishing Wings |
Drove out to Essex Skypark in the morning to do some work in my hangar. Got some paint and oil out of there -- the County inspection is coming up and we're not supposed to have any hazmat in there. In the spring Lynnette and I had taken two minivan loads of junk from the hangar to the dump. Now I swept out the hangar -- there was so much dirt on the floor, I could have grown crops. The hangar is really looking good. It's going to look even better when the RV-7 is in there in a month or two. It's time to start polishing the wings. Put the right wing on sawhorses. |
Then removed the blue
plastic.
You only compound/polish a couple of
panels at a time. First I dabbed a fingerprint of G6 compounding
agent every three
inches.
Then I smeared it around with the circular buffer. Then went over it with the orbital buffer at low speed setting.
Here's the circular buffer. Both it and the Cyclo Model 5 dual head orbital buffer came with the Nuvite kit I bought at Oshkosh last year.
An hour or so later, the wing top surface has been compounded.
