January 23, 2008 - Trimming and drilling the Emp Fairing |
||||||
I figured the best way to trim the fairing was with the dremel tool. Well, in fact it was the only way I could think of. I was almost out of the Dremel cutting disks so I stopped at the hardware store to buy some more. They didn't have the one's I normally used. I ended up buying some "heavy duty" disks which were a little pricy and I wasn't sure would work. I tried my last regular disk and it broke almost immediately. Then I tried the heavy duty disk -- three times as thick -- as it worked great. The one disk did the entire fairing.
The fairing after trimming, but before
edge-smoothing.

Next I drilling the fairing to the
HS. Again, I could see the holes underneath through the
fiberglass.

Then I drilled the VS. | ||||||
The right side. The fairing fits tightly to the empennage when clecoed.
