July 23-24, 2010 - Williams Lake, Idaho
About 10 miles south of Salmon, and then a little west of the river, was Williams Lake where we had rented a cabin. The lake was at least 1000 feet above the Salmon River valley floor. Here's a shot of the lake from the RV. You can see part of the dirt winding road that led to the lake. The road was cut into the side of the mountain and there were no barriers. I was more scared driving on that road that I ever was in the RV!
Our A-frame cabin. | ||||||
We had a floating dock on lake where we spent a lot of
time. My friend Pete brought his fishing boat. Hey, if you're
on a lake, you gotta have a boat!

Yours truly. | ||||||
The first day we went on a rafting trip down the Salmon River. From left to right: Steve (our Guide), Nelson, Jack, Pete, Dave, Moi.
In addition to the big boat, we took turns soloing in the "Duckie", an inflatable kayak.
The raft trip was a great time. The scenary was awesome. We saw a bunch of otters, toured a goldmine, had a great lunch prepared by the outfitters, and braved many thrilling rapids -- both in and out of the raft.
The second day Dave and I went for a hike to some hot springs which the others tried to catch some fish.
One cow that didn't make it.
Looking down the canyon from the hot springs.
The hot springs. A little underwhelming, but they were definately warm. In fact a little too warm on a hot day like today so I only lasted a few minutes in it.
Coming back this young bull was standing on the path. He moved out of the way. A year from now it will probably be us that will have to go around.
I took Jack and Dave for RV rides. Here's a shot of the Salmon Airport FBO office. There's a general aviation airline based here called Salmon Air which is very busy taking people to remote mountain airstrips and the like.
Dave ready for his first ride in an RV. Many years
ago, he was my second passenger ever. I took him up in a Cessna 150
right after I got my license.
