March 25, 2006 - Seat Backs

I fashioned these center brackets per the drawings.  With the band saw and my X-acto saw, I was able to really do a nice job on them, if I do say so myself.  It's all about having the right tool for the job.
The seat back angles.  You can see the notches filed into the four side angles and the radius of the two top angles.
The next step was to drill the angles to the seat back.  I drilled #40 holes in the side angles, according to the drawing measurements, then clamped the side angles to the seat back and match-drilled them to #30.
I did the same with the bottom hinge (except for the end holes -- I match-drilled those using the side angles as a template).
I drilled #40 starter holes in the top and bottom angles, using the drawing measurements, then #30 match-drilled them to the seat backs.
Finally I drilled the top hinge to the seat back.
