December 22, 2005 - Fwd Fuse Lower Longeron |
||||||
The next step was to fashion and install the lower longerons, which are made out of 1/8" x 1" x 1 1/4" angle stock. First I sawed the two longerons to length using my modeler saw. I can't believe how fast it goes through aluminum and what a nice, straight cut it makes. .
Then I had to trim the trailing ends as marked here. I couldn't
use the modeler saw here so I had to break out the hacksaw.
|
||||||
The cutting is done and the longeron is ready for a little file action.
With the longeron cut and trimmed,
it needs a little twisting.
The next step is to clamp the lower longeron to the firewall steel bracket and match-drill them. Since this is a step where you simply can't afford to make a mistake, I decided to wait until the next day -- I have the day off -- and do it when I'm rested and fresh. |
