February 18, 2006 - Fwd Fuse Gussets |
||||||
I started on the F-695 forward fuselage gussets that fasten the main longerons to the angle frame of the firewall. They come slightly pre-bent but I needed to bend them more to get them to lie flat on both the main longerons and the firewall angle. I bent them by putting the gusset in the vise and whacking it with the rubber hammer. There was a lot of back and forth: bend the gusset in the vise, check it on the fuselage, back to the vise, check on the fuse, ....
Once the gussets fit reasonably well, it was time to drill the holes,
according to the drawings. Fourteen holes along the long edge, and
five across the shrot edge.

Then I drilled the main longeron and firewall angle bracket using the gusset as a template. I used clamps at first to secure the gusset.
