February 19, 2006 - Misc Fuse

I was actually able to get a couple of tasks accomplished today, which was nice.   First I drilled the shoulder harness anchors to the main longerons.
Shoulder harness anchors complete.  A cable will run from here forward to the shoulder harnesses.
Next I drilled the F-656 gusset plates to the F-706 and F-707 bulkheads and the main longerons.  First I clamped and clecoed it as shown.  I have felt stuck to each end of the clamp so the aluminum doesn't get scarred.
Then I drilled it.  The blue masking tape is to prevent aluminum shavings getting into the crack between the side skin and main longeron.
All four gussets drilled.
I clecoed the rib and gusset between the F-706 and F-707 bulkheads even though the instructions don't call for it yet.  I just wanted to see how it goes together.  I also made the little F-707B angle bracket that goes on the top front of the F-707 bulkhead.
At some point in the near future, I'm going to have to get in the fuselage to do some riveting.  Although the yellow sawhorse is rated at 1200 pounds, I don't really trust it.  I like the wooden mini-sawhorse Dan Checkoway built to support his fuselage at this stage, so I decided to build one like his.
I cut the legs, side gussets, and top out of a bunch of 2x4s and 3/4" ply I had around.  Tomorrow I'll pick up a bunch of wood screws and finish it.
