October 15, 2005 - Center Fuselage

The J-stringers, tailcone and rear bulkheads got a little scratched up during the pre-assembly so I sanded/scotch-brited them smooth.  Doing so removed the alcad so I wanted to prime them with the Mar-Hyde.  I wanted to prime the inside of the tailcone anyways because it will probably be the lowest point on the airplane and water may collect there.
I finally got around to making wood spacers for the front and rear F-704 bulkheads.  The spacers have to be exactly 1 7/16" thick.  The way I did it was to glue three pieces of 1/2" plywood together.  The plywood isn't exactly 1/2" so glued together the three pieces came to exactly 1 7/16 inches.  The two spacers were each 7 3/4" tall and 5" wide.

Here, I'm drilling 1/2" holes for the spar bolts.
All done.  Later on, I discovered that the bottom holes on one spacer were off.  I had to enlarge them with a circular file.
I flew the Citabria in the morning, but it was hazy and bumpy.  After awhile I actually started feeling airsick!  I cut the flight short and went back to home base.  About the only highlight of the flight was seeing this bald eagle below me.
