December 14, 2005 - Firewall Drilled |
||||||
I was concerned about keeping the skin tight with the longeron. You can't cleco it because the firewall lower bracket sits on the inside of the longeron. I ended up using duct tape to keep the skin tight to the longeron. It worked great!
I put the firewall and bottom skin back on and double-checked that
everything was ready to drill the side skins to the firewall and
firewall upper brackets.
|
||||||
Everything looked good so I started drilling.
I love working on my plane.
|
||||||
The left side drilled to the firewall. You can see at the bottom that I have the skin clamped to the firewall upper bracket.
OK, I have started drilling the skin to longeron to the firewall upper bracket. I have the skin duct taped to the longeron, and the skin clamped to the longeron and bracket, and finally 4-4 rivets inserted in the holes just to help keep things aligned.
The forward bottom skin gets tucked on the inside of the side skin.
Drilling the firewall upper bracket is complete! I was pleased
with how it came out. The bracket is tight to the longeron which
is tight to the skin.
