December 12, 2005 - Forward Fuselage |
I trimmed the forward end of the longeron so there is 3/4" of space between the end of the longeron and the end of the skin. Then I drilled the longeron to the forward end.
A rare family member sighting in the vicinity of the project!
I clecoed the forward bottom skin. The pre-drilled holes matched perfectly with the center bottom skin and the side skins. At moments like these, you can't say enough great things about Van's Aircraft Company.
I made four "straps" and drilled them to the F-704 bulkhead sides,
longerons and side skins.
And then it was time to clamp the firewall in place.
The firewall from a different perspective.
Per the instructions, I drew a line down the middle of the firewall bottom angle.
A happy camper.
Yet another firewall image. The image doesn't capture how big the fuselage is.
A good look at the forward bottom skin.
