April 14, 2006 - Seat Floors

This is a shot of the baggage floor tunnel cover.  The piece came pre-bent and pre-drilled.  The drawings show the cover aft tab going forward of the lower baggage bulkhead, but the holes don't line up very well with the baggage floor holes.  Dan Checkoway ended up putting the aft tab behind the lower baggage bulkhead.  I'll give that a try and I suspect the holes will align much better.
I started working on the forward tunnel cover.  I had previously fashioned the brackets.  Now I match-drilled them to the aft seat floor.  Yes, I know I have the left bracket on the right floor -- opposite of the way it is supposed to go  -- but this is the only way I could clamp the bracket to match-drill it.  Both the brackets ended up fine.
I drilled the center seat ribs nutplate holes to #19.  My procedure these days for drilling #19 is to first drill it to #30, then use the Unitbit to get it close, then a final shot with the #19 bit.  I get too much chattering for my liking if I just go from #30 to #19.
