December 11, 2005 - Forward Fuselage

Today I drilled the longerons on the left side.
To keep the longeron even with the skin edge, I used the clamp with wooden blocks so as to not scratch the angle or skin.  You can see how the F-704 side angles rest on top of the longeron.
I finally finished drilling the longerons.  The next step was to drill the side skins and bottom skin joint.
It may not look like fun but it beats drilling the longerons.
A close look at the side skin joint.  You can see they are joined by a double row of rivets.
Same with the bottom skin joint -- double row of rivets.
I still had more longeron drilling to do  -- from the F-704 bulkhead to the forward end.  I also had to trim the forward end of the longeron a little;  so it was 3/4" aft of the skin.
The left longeron is complete!
