August 22, 2004 - Atlantic City, NJ

My mother-in-law, Eunice, and I had been talking about flying to Atlantic City for a long time and we decided to finally just do it.

And our timing couldn't have been better. What a greatly flying day, weather-wise. It simply doesn't get any better. Not real hot, blue skies, light winds, and the visibility! We saw the Atlantic City skyline from 35 miles away (GPS-certified)

We had a great flight and Eunice really enjoyed flying low over the Eastern Shore and southern New Jersey.

Here is Eunice and the Citabria on the Bader Field, Atlantic City tarmac.

Facing the other direction, you can see Atlantic City over my left shoulder.

Bader Field was a little unusual. It has two intersecting, big, long runways. But the taxiiways have weeds growing out of them and what you see behind me are the only facilities: a trailer and a little control tower. But the FBO attendent was very friendly, called us a cab and refueled the Citabria while we were in the City.

This is the Atlantic City boardwalk. The casinos are really all there is (unless you count the beach). There are almost none of the stores and food places like you see on the Ocean City, Maryland boardwalk.

Having been to Las Vegas and Reno, I've long known that I am just unlucky when it comes to gambling. I might as well just toss my money out the Citabria's window from the air and save some time. But with visions of winning enough money to buy a new O-360, I put $10 into a big slot machine. No joy.
