January 27, 2005 - Right Flap |

Riveting the reinforcer to the end rib.
I inserted the cleco-togethered flap into the jib, then removed the
spar. It's time to rivet. this is the outboard end.
|
||||||
This is looking at the flap from the inboard side.
Riveting the skins to the ribs and skin overlap wasn't particular
difficult this time, as I had learned and refined a the process from the
left flap. The key was my homemade rectangular bucking bar.
Still, it is some of the more challenging riveting I have done on the
project. A lot of rivets had to be shot holding the gun in my left
hand and bucking bar in right.
Then I inserted the spar and riveted the skins and hinge to it.
The bottom skin to spar-hinge could be hand-squeezed which was nice.

The final step was to pop-rivet the spar reinforcer to the end rib and then rivet the reinforcers together.
Whoops! My pop-rivet squeezer with the left side grinded off isn't going to work on this right flap. The only thing I can think of is buy another sacrificial pop-rivet squeezer and file the RIGHT side off of it.
