November 21, 2006 -  Aft Canopy Channels

Using some 1/8" aluminum from the local hardware shop, I made four spacers.  The bandsaw made it a quick job.
The instructions called for 7/8" spacers for the aft channels.  I didn't have any wood or combination of wood for that thickness.  I did have some 3/4" particle board so I cut four of those and taped the aft channels to the roll bar.  The spacer's purpose is to give 1/4" between the aft channels and the roll bar.  Later on I would find that 7/8" was too much.  I ended up just taping a piece of .020 sheet aluminum to the wood spacer and that gave me the 1/4" I wanted.

This is just the "first fitting" to get a feel for how it's supposed to go together.
Next I made the splice plate for the aft channels.  The drawings called for only three holes along the outboard edges, but I went with four, to avoid get separation from the tooling hole in the aft channel.  Hat tip to Dan Checkoway.
Match drilling the splice plate to the left channel.
