November 10, 2006 - Forward Canopy Frame |
||||||
I devinyled the canopy skin. Then I cut a 1/2" length of UHMW tape and applied it to the insert surface of the forward edge of the canopy skin. It's a strange kind of tape -- same material as the canopy release pin blocks or the wear blocks for the flaps and brakes. UHMW stands for ultra high-density molecular watchamacallit or something. How did the Wright Brothers get along without all this fancy stuff?
Once again, I clecoed everything back together.

I match-drilled the gooseneck hinge brackets to the canopy frame.

I stuck a 1/4" bit through the canopy release block holes and twisted it by hand to make a mark on the gooseneck, which you can see here. The instructions say to use an angle drill with 1/4" bit to start a hole. I have an angle drill but not with the 1/4" bit. Plus it would be hard to it up there, reaching through the firewall recess hole. So I did it my way, just like Frank Sinatra would do.
I drilled the spice-plate holes to #30.
