November 9, 2006 - Forward Canopy Frame |
The canopy skin is clecoed on. I'm trying to get it to butt up against the forward fuse skin, with a 1/32" gap.
It actually fit pretty well. I had to make a few adjustments, but
it didn't take too long.
Next I fashioned the F-614 splice-plate. Really all I had to do was drill the #40 holes. The drawings say #30, and eventually they are #30s, but initially you should drill #40. I didn't make the mistake thanks to Dan Checkoway's marvelous web site. I used the drill press with a fence in an attempt to align the holes.
Once I had the canopy skin where I wanted it, I taped it in place with
duct tape.
Then I clamped the splice-plate in place and match-drilled it to the canopy frame.
All done. | ||||||
After match-drilling the splice-plate, I took everything apart and deburred. While everything was together, I had put an awl through the block hole and poked the goosenecks to get an idea where the center of the 3/8 holes would be. On the right side it was dead center. On the left side it was a little aft of center. Dan C's was just like mine so I felt OK about it.
I taped the goose-neck ribs to the skin.
Then clecoed everything together again, and match-drilled the skin to the gooseneck ribs.
