June 6, 2004 - Elevator Trim Tab |
||||
Here is the elevator trim tab skin with the spar clecoed to the top. Really not much to the trim tab. |
||||
First step was to bend the skin to the proper angle. I
used the wood 2by8 brake followed by the 1/8 dowell and hand seamer.

Next step was to bend the tabs on each end. The trim tab is clamped upside down with wooden wedges, double edged tape and the C-cleamps. First, bend the bottom tab down, then the top tab up. I followed the instructions exactly, and used wood to do the initial bending. With this, I got the metal close. Then I used the rivet gun with a flush head at low pressure (approx 25psi). This worked really well in getting the tab to a good 90 degree bend. There's no way you can get it there by manually pushing it with wood. This picture shows the tabs before bending. |

The trim tab all clecoed together. You can see the end tabs bent nicely, and the control horn tabs clecoed on.
A shot from the front. You can see the hinge clamped to the bottom of the top skin.
