December 10, 2007 - Wiring Intercom DSub |
||||||
The SL-60 D-Sub connectors were a good warm-up for the main event: wiring the Intercom D-Sub connector. This would be a bear because it has no less than seven shielded wire bundles coming into it. Their ground shields all have to be "daisy-chained" together.
I started with the power and main
ground wire. I spliced a wire to the main ground wire. It
would be the start of the
daisy-chain
|
||||||
I set my "third-hand" soldering stand on top of the glove compartment.
I just did it one shielded wire
bundle at a time. There was a definate process to it -- seven or so
things had to be done in the proper sequence so that the daisy-chain was
intact and all soldered wires were covered in heat-shrink.

Three hours later it was done. My neck hurt for a week afterward!
Amazing what a difference some tie-wraps make.
This is the Intercom schematic which I followed exactly.
