December 3, 2006 - Massey Fly-In |
Yesterday, Saturday, it was very windy so I worked on the RV all day.
Today the weather was relatively nice considering it is December. I
headed out to the airport and washed the Citabria. Then I headed
over to the Eastern Shore for the annual
Massey Air Museum
(MD1)open hangar day. It was cool but not too cold. The air
was smooth and winds relatively night. The Citabria absolutely loved
the cool air, cruising at 120mph indicated and climbing 1000 fpm! This was definitely the place to be; I estimate there were 60+ planes, the majority being tail draggers. There were four planes in the pattern when we arrived. |
There was even this hot air balloon although it didn't fly while I was
there.
A Junker Jungmeister. | ||||||
I thought this Light Sport Plane would be fun to fly.
Lots of Cubs. | ||||||
There were four Citabrias and four RVs.
Dick B's Super D.
A Sonex.
Even a big T-6 showed up!
Inside the main hangar, there was a
great spread of food, along with hot coffee and apple cider, next to a big,
beautiful Stearman being restored.
Everybody left at once -- it was like leaving at Sun 'N Fun. |
I'd say half the attendees had already left. There is a DC-3 down there that is their next restoration project.
On the way back to Essex, we passed overhead five U.S. Naval Academy Yard Patrol (YP) crafts heading home in column. Perhaps returning from Philadelphia where Navy beat Army in yesterday's big game?
