July 10, 2005 - Citabria Tows Glider! |
Beautiful flying weather this Sunday afternoon. Bruce and I headed
out to the Flying Cow airport in the Citabria for some soaring.
Visibility was excellent.
We flew over this private airstrip. Nice! |
Sugarloaf mountain off to our left.
Flying up the Potomac River. Harpers Ferry is on the other side of the break in the mountain ridge..
The high riverbank off the left wing.
We climb a little. The town of Brunswick is on the right.
Bruce is towing me with the
Citabria! I am flying a Sweitzer 1-26 glider. Earlier I was the
tow pilot and Bruce flew the glider. This is the first time we have towed with the Citabria. As the tow pilot, you definitely know you're towing something. As Bruce said, "it's like you're pulling a bag of bricks!". Climb speed was 65 mph. On this hot day, I averaged a climb rate of about 300-400 feet per minute. Oh well. |

Crossing Baltimore on the way home. Chalk up another great flying day.
