May 21, 2007 - Drilling Engine Mount

Today I started drilling the engine mount holes.  I started with the upper right hand corner, using the pre-drilled pilot hole as a starter.  I drilled first with a #40, then stepped up with #30, #19, #12, 1/4, 11/32 and finally the 3/8 reamer.  I tried using the Unitbit without any luck.  I had trouble getting through the stainless steel firewall; the bit kept "grabbing" the stainless.  I finally got it done.  This picture was before I deburred the hole; it looked better afterwards.
Looking at the hole from the inside of the fuse.  Placement looks good.
Next I trimmed some of the bottom firewall flange with the dremel tool.  This needs to be done because the flange interferes with the landing gear.
