June 1, 2007 - Wheels

I ordered these various sealants for all the tubing and fittings that are coming up.  The Loctite 565 is for the brake pipe fittings.  The EZ Turn (same thing as Fuel Lube) is for the fuel fittings.  The Permatex 2 Form-a-Gasket is for the oil cooler fittings.
I also ordered this Lisle bearing packer.  I ended up ordering the Loctite 565 and Bearing Packer from Amazon.com of all places.
I drilled and tapped the axle nut sides for the steel bracket.  I also installed the nutplate on the steel brackets.
I edge-smoothed and prepped these pieces for priming.  The triangular looking things are the main spar gussets.  I still have to match-drill them to the fuselage sides.  If the instructions say when to do that, I havn't found it.  The other two pieces are the wheel pants brackets.
At first I was just going to go with the bearings greased as they came, but then I decided to bite the bullet and repack them.  I was glad I did.  I now have a better understanding of how they go together.  Plus I think they are greased better now.  I used the AeroShell 5 grease that I bought some time ago.  The bearing packer worked fine.  It was still a messy job though.
I bolted the wheels back together so I could drill a hole in the axle for the cotter pin.
Ready for drilling.  I decided to sleep on it first.
