Day 8 - Kanab Creek

Heading south, before the Grand Canyon there is the Kanab Creek Wilderness Area.  From the chart, it looks to me like a northern protrusion of the Grand Canyon, but the important thing is that it falls outside of the special rules airspace.  In other words, I don't have to be on oxygen to fly over it.

So I headed south and soon a canyon began to emerge.

A very nice-looking canyon.

Getting bigger.

Yep, this was well worth my time.

It's pretty amazing how flat it can be above the rim.

The special use airspace begins up ahead somewhere in that big valley.  Fortunately I was able to see it on the GPS and stay out of it.

Leaving the Kanab Creek canyon I turned north and flew parallel to the Grand Canyon -- off my right wingtip -- over the flat, tree-covered Kaibob plateau.
