Day 4 - Capital Reef National Park |
OK, flying north northwest up the Capital Reef NP which is long and narrow. I didn't know what to expect -- this was undiscovered territory for me.
So far it looks pretty good! Very colorful.
Just kind of one, long, shallow river canyon.
White, red, green, blue.
That's a dry river bed, not a road.
Now that's a dirt road. | ||||||
I can see why it is a NP; it's very beautiful. I had a perfect day for it, of course.
It just keeps getting better and better.
I was amazed to see this large grass field with cattle grazing on it.
Words are just inadequate to describe what I'm seeing on this trip.
I saw this airport on the chart nearby called Wayne Wonderland in Loa, Utah, so of course I had to check it out. They do sell avgas.
I passed by this while flying in the vicinity of Thousand Lake Mountain.
Then it was east into the big Castle Valley.
I was now heading north through Castle Valley to this day's stopping point: Carbon County Airport in Price, Utah.
Overhead Price, Utah.
Carbon County airport (KPUC) is a few miles east of town. I stopped here for gas two years ago, liked the airport, and picked it as an overnight stop for this trip. As you can see, it is a large airport with three runways.
Safe on deck. There is a nice terminal and staffed FBO. They have a courtesy car but it is only for short trips, not overnight. However, they recommend the Greenwell Inn in town that provides free shuttle service to/from the airport. I stayed there and I'd recommend it to anyone. The price was very reasonable.
