July 5, 2010 - Fly-by for CAP Cadets
Mike R. (Cuban), Bill R. (Jolly) and myself met up at Carroll /County airport and headed south around the west side of the Washington DC SFRA. The destination was Allen C. Perkinson/Blackstone Army Airfield (KBKT) near Fort Pickett (named after the guy in charge of Pickett's Charge at Gettysburg?). We were going to do a flyby for a bunch of Civil Air Patrol cadets. Cuban takes the lead as we fly above the haze.
Jolly is #3 off my right wing.
Upon arrival in the Blackstone area, we practiced a bit while waiting for the CAP trainers to land. Then we did the formation fly-bys. After landing, the CAP cadets checked out our RVs.
Jolly answering questions about his RV-7.
This airport didn't really have an FBO. But it did have this building with a lounge in it, plus self-service fuel.
All the CAP trainers: Cessna 172s.
Our three RVs. | ||||||
Hundreds of FEMA trailers. Like all those down in
Louisiana that were not used after Katrina.
We departed Perkinson and headed over to Farmville Regional Airport which had cheaper gas.
Farmville was more of your typical GA airport. They
had a nice FBO facility. Alas, their snackbar had recently
closed. Still, I liked this airport; it's a nice cross-country
stop. | ||||||
Heading home. | ||||||
Cuban had to break off early; here he's descending into the muck.
Jolly and I had a great time flying line abreast just above the broken layer.
It was kind of neat to see another RV zoom past a cloud; it really gave you an appreciation for the RVs high speed.
