September 25, 2010 - Essex Pilots Pancake Breakfast at Gettysburg Airport; EAA Chapter Picnic
Today was a "two-fer" made possible by the RV's speed: have breakfast with the other Essex Skypark pilots at the Gettysburg Airport pancake breakfast and then zoom over to a private grass strip near Easton for my EAA Chapter 571 picnic. The weather was pretty good. Here is my RV parked at Gettysburg Airport.
EAA Chapter 1041 put on the pancake breakfast. It
was probably the best quality pancake breakfast I have had so far.
Or maybe I was just hungary? They served scrambled eggs, sausage,
home fries and of course pancakes.
The pilots of Essex Skypark. Left to right: Art, Randy, Tom, Brian. Notice the round-table like object at center left. It is a rotating griddle that they cooked the pancakes on.
They probably had 20-30 planes on-hand while I was
there. | ||||||
This recently restored Waco was the star attraction. It wasn't until I got home and looked at this picture that I realized this was the same Waco I had seen a few weeks ago at the Golden Age Air Museum airshow. This plane won the Lindy award -- very prestigious -- at the 2009 AirVenture and also won a top award at the 2010 Sun 'N Fun.
I left Gettysburg, made a beeline back to Essex Skypark, but kept right on going to a private grass strip just west of Easton called Bloomingdale. We were having our local EAA Chapter picnic today. George (RV-8) and Dan (Taylorcraft) were already here. The grass runway has a slight dogleg but it isn't a problem.
We have a small chapter but most members were at the picnic.
We had some great food. Some combines were working a
nearby wheatfield which was interesting.
Bob arrived in his Quicksilver; he is building an RV-7. Another chapter member flew the Kitfox in.
Checking out the airplanes. That's what we do.

Bob departing in the Quicksilver. Bruce R. and Richard S. flew in later in their RV-8s.
