September 18, 2008 - Install Oil Cooler |
||||||
I installed the oil cooler for good, then attached the oil hoses. I'm sticking with the stock oil cooler and have my fingers crossed that I won't have high oil temps.
I riveted these little pieces onto the baffle sides.
I reinstalled the oil filler tube and
safetied it to the engine case. The tube can't unscrew out without
pulling on the safety
wire.
|
||||||
I finished up the fuel pump overflow installation. Did it per the drawings.
I installed the blast tube that will help cool the alternator.
This second blast tube will help cool the single magneto.
You can see how the magneto blast
tube protrudes from the rear of the #4
baffle.
|
||||||
I finished the crotch-strap bracket installation. I just had to pop-rivet in the forward bracket on each side. Easy to say, but not so easy to do.
A close up. It was just a pain
to have to lean into the cockpit with the pop-rivet
gun.
|
||||||
Back to the baffle. I had thought I'd be able to rivet the #3 baffle corners together with the Main Squeeze, but no go. I had to fire up the compressor and use the gun. No big deal.
The riveting came out nice. Despite my best efforts, as you can the beautiful maroon valve covers got pretty scrapped up. The paint job on them was not very tough. Mattituck sent me touch-up paint but I'm waiting to finish all the firewall forward stuff before I touch up the valve covers. |
