OK, next step is to rivet the nutplates to the top plate. The nutplates rivets will fasten the filter retaining clips to the top plate as well. I set the filter on the top plate to estimate where the clips should go. |
I figured first thing to do was drill
the nutplate mounting holes in the top plate.
I couldn't find the stock to make the clips -- I finally found it in the airbox filter bypass material. I fashioned the clips and drilled them the nutplate mount holes in them. I used the nutplate itself to do that. The filter itself is flexible so the clips don't have to be perfectly placed.
A better look at the
clips.

It's been awhile since I've riveted. I just squeezed the nutplates and clips to the top plate. No problem.
Trial fit the whole mess together.
The top plate neck needs to be upward to match vertically the top of the cowl air inlet. The instructions show you where the bend line should be. I cut out a notch in the flange on each side with the Dremel, then made the bend. Then I bolted the mount plate to the top plate -- just AN-3 bolts. |
Then I bolted the mount plate - top
plate to the carb, then attached the lower
cowl.

The top plate neck bend needs a little adjustment, but not much.
