May 2, 2004 - Rudder Trailing Edge

I bought this piece of steel angle at the local hardware store. It worked great for back-riveting a straight Rudder trailing edge. Previously I had glued the trailing edge wedge and the Rudder trailing edges together with West System Epoxy mixed with cotton flox, and clecoed together with aluminum angle on each side.

The rudder is clecoed to the steel angle, ready for back-riveting.
This is a picture of the Rudder trailing edge, "shop" head side. The shop head is nestled nicely in the dimple. I was pleased with how the trailing edge came out: the edge is straight and the rivets look good. .
Where the rudder ribs get narrow at the trailing edge, I used flush pop-rivets. I did a lot of pop-riveting on the Citabria restoration but this is the first time I ever used flush pop-rivets. They came out nice. The only drawback is the hold in the middle. Perhaps I can use some filler in that.
Another shot of the flush pop-rivet.
