May 2, 2004 - Rudder Trailing Edge |
||||
I bought this piece of steel angle at the local hardware store. It worked great for back-riveting a straight Rudder trailing edge. Previously I had glued the trailing edge wedge and the Rudder trailing edges together with West System Epoxy mixed with cotton flox, and clecoed together with aluminum angle on each side. |

The rudder is clecoed to the steel angle, ready for back-riveting.

This is a picture of the Rudder trailing edge, "shop" head side. The shop head is nestled nicely in the dimple. I was pleased with how the trailing edge came out: the edge is straight and the rivets look good. .
Where the rudder ribs get narrow at the trailing edge, I used flush pop-rivets. I did a lot of pop-riveting on the Citabria restoration but this is the first time I ever used flush pop-rivets. They came out nice. The only drawback is the hold in the middle. Perhaps I can use some filler in that.
Another shot of the flush pop-rivet.
