June 26, 2004 - RV-7 Wing Inspection Port Nutplates

The next step was to install 12 nutplates on each wing spar for the inspection port covers. These were a little different size nutplates which took #6 screws. After doing 120 of them, 24 more aren't too bad so I got through this in two days.

A good look at the countersinking for the inspection port nutplates. The big holes are very close to the edge of the flange; but this is normal, based on other builder websites.
I finally hit on a good method for keeping aluminum shavings out of cracks while not getting adhesive on the metal. I temporarily taped this rag to the spar. I took the tape on the spar flange off as soon as I finished countersinking this section.
