December 18, 2011 - Flying in December
The weather this weekend was good, even though it was mid-December, so there is only one thing to do: go flying! That's not to say it wasn't cold. It wasn't bitter cold -- say somewhere in the forties -- but cold enough that I pre-heated my engine. Something is wrong with my Red Dragon pre-heater. It works but is just not putting out the heat it used to. I thought the propane tank might be low so I had it re-filled. But I'm still not getting the heat I should. It works but takes longer. I think its the regulator. I'll send it off for repair in the spring. Red Dragon will repair it for free I think.
I was actually glad there were some
clouds, as opposed to clear blue skies. The clouds just make the
flying more interesting. This picture makes the weather
look bad. But once I got above the clouds things were
completely different -- sunny and blue -- and very nice.
I flew across the bay to fun fly over the Eastern Shore.
See what I mean -- things looked much
better from the air.
I played around in the sky but pulled
too many G's too soon and had to break it off.
There's a private grass airport down there with intersecting runways.
Heading west for home. I throttled way back and was only burning 5 gallons per hour on the transit back. I practiced landings with three wheel and one three-point short field. Nice flight.
