Day 17 - Triple Tree, SC to Clearview/Essex Skypark, MD |
Leaving Triple Tree, I headed over to nearby Laurens County Airport (KLUX) to get some gas where I was told prices were low. It certainly was; in fact, as low as the Alabama airports. Three RVs were already on the ground when I landed, and another RV arrived after me. Proving that RVers fly a lot and know where to find the lowest gas prices! The FBO managers were on hand and very friendly. Nice airport.
I have flown from South Carolina to Maryland many times and frankly, it's a boring flight. I didn't take a single picture. Clearview Airport -- only a 20-minute flight from Essex Skypark -- was having their annual fly-in so I decided to drop in.
I was here last year and know they cook up some tasty burgers.
I know a few of the pilots based here, plus a lot of the Essex Skypark pilots fly over. The dining area is very close to the runway so you can do two things at once: watch flight operations and have lunch.
Lots of people on hand; I guess they are locals just checking out the airplanes.
Essex Skypark airplanes: Rob's SeaRey and Chip's Stearman.
My RV is parked on the other side of the runway.
Anthony's Decathelon and Rich's Decathelon side by side.
Brian's Great Lakes and RV-8.
I stayed for about an hour or so and then soon I was over homebase, Essex Skypark. What a great trip. Chalk up another long cross-country!
