Day 6 - Sawtooth Mountains, Idaho |
Departing Coski, I headed southeast into the mountains again. The ground fog was long gone.
Looking down at Warm Springs Creek (0U1). This is the real deal; a bona fide Idaho mountain airstrip. I think I better attend the McCall Mountain Flying school before I try flying into something like this.
Continuing into the Sawtooth Mountains.
I've driven through the Sawtooth Mountains. Let me tell you the view is much better from the air!
I'll let the pictures speak for themselves.
My head was on a swivel, soaking in the magnificent view.
High mountain lakes. | ||||||
Almost through the Sawtooth Mountains and into the valley beyond.
Looking back.
Once in the big valley that runs north to south, I flew over Smiley Creek Airport (U87). I believe you can get a pretty good breakfast down there at the Smiley Creek Lodge.
I flew past Friedman Memorial Airport in Sun Valley and soon I was back over the big Snake River plains.
What a difference a few days make. The tops of this hill were shrounded in clouds when I came through four days ago.
I stopped at McCarley Field Airport (U02) in Blackfoot, Idaho -- about 20 miles northeast of Pocatello -- to get gas and stretch my legs.
Nice friendly airport. I chatted with the airport manager in the FBO before continuing on.
I was sort of excited because now I was entering country I have never been in before: by car or by air.
