AirVenture 2012 - Team RV

Team RV had never performed at AirVenture before.  Given that this year was the 40th Anniversary of Van's Aircraft, the RV community felt that Team RV performing in the airshow would be altogether fitting.  EAA did the right thing and on Monday, Team RV made its debut at AirVenture.

Here the 11 Team RV planes are taxiing out.

Although I've flown with some of the Team RV pilots at formation clinics, this is the first time I've seen their act.

Still pictures can not capture the experience but I took a few just to have something to talk to.

I thought  Team RV put on a fantastic show.  Without a doubt, AirVenture worthy.   With so many airplanes, there was always something going on in front of the audience, while the others set up for their next run.  At the end of the routine, I sensed that Danny Clisham, the veteran world master of airshow announcing, was deeply impressed with Team RV.

The crowd loved it when the Team RV airplanes turned towards them on the taxiway and run their engines up with smoke on.

Team RV taxiing by.   I was the them perform Monday and Wednesday.

Perfect spacing and alignment.

There could be no greater tribute to Van's than to have their kitplanes fly like this in front of the big crowds at the AirVenture airshow.

On Tuesday, I listened to three Team RV pilots -- Tad "Striples" Sargent, Bob "Subob" Goodman and Robert "RB" Gibbons -- talk about what they do:  how they became part of the team, how they prepare for an airshow, how they maintain their aicraft, etc.  It was fascinating.  I was surprised at how many G's they pull during a routine:  5.5.
