July 28, 2007 - Mapbox & Strobe Power Supply mount

I trimmed the bottom edge of the mapbox door so that it would open fully to the horizontal position.  I'm really going to appreciate having this mapbox.  I tell myself that when I contemplate how much time I've spent on the silly thing!
Next I drilled a hole of the camloc fastener.  Then I drilled the "nutplate" holes for the female part.
I riveted the hinge to the mapbox.  That's about all I can do to the mapbox for now.  The next step is to rivet the mapbox itself to the panel but I want to drill some more holes in the panel before I rivet the mapbox.
Time to install the Strobe Power Supply mounting bracket.  First I drilled the lower J-stringer using the pre-drilled bracket holes as a guide.  Fortunately I have an angle-drill with a very short #30 bit; otherwise, I don't know how I would have done it.  Still, I used to use the mirror just to position the bit in the pre-drilled hole.

After the bottom holes were drilled, I drilled the four holes on the top J-stringer, through the bracket.  No problemo.

Then the bracket came off for deburring and to install the nutplates.  The nutplates for Strobe Power Supply are the pre-drilled outboard ones.  I had to rivet the nutplates with the gun but it was easy.

Then I pop-riveted the bracket to the J-stringers.  The bottom rivets were a challenge because there wasn't enough room to get the rivet-squeezer in there.  But I got it done somehow.  The top rivets were easy.
