AirVenture 2007 - Warbirds

Sea of Mustangs.  There were quite a few Mustangs this year.
Love those Mustangs.
The big C-5A Galaxy was in AeroShell square the first part of the week.  It's big wing came in pretty useful as a shelter when it rained pretty hard one afternoon.
The C-5 departs.  Incredible.
Glacier Girl
One of my favorite Warbirds:  the Grumman F8F Bearcat.
The classic F-86 SabreJet.
L-39s lined up.  I don't know if I'd call these warbirds but I bet they sure are fun to fly.
Now this is a Warbird:  an A-26 Invader.
This was one of the first U.S. helicopters.  You know it as the MASH helicopter and yes, they were really used as such in Korea.
A big T-28 with a beautiful paint job.
Another T-28, this one in Navy trainer markers, taxiis by with a B-25 in the background.
A big Grumman Goose.  Long ago, I saw one of these do an airshow routine during the 1972 Transpo airshow at Dulles Airport.
Another classic Warbird -- a big B-24 Liberator bomber was parked in AeroShell square.  The B-17 gets all the press, but they actually produced more B-24s than the B-17, and they had slightly better performance.
Speaking of B-17s ...   This one continually flew overhead, giving rides.  I think it was flying out of Appleton.
The C-5 left but this C-17 showed up to take its place.  It put on an awesome impromtu airshow.  It was amazing to see such a big plane doing 45 degree turns at low level.  The short field landing and takeoff had to be seen to be believed.
The U-2 spyplane.  Unfortunately I didn't get to see it take off.  I missed the F-22 Raptor show as well.

There was a big Navy helicopter next to the U-2.  It tows a sled through the water in search of mines.
