October 30, 2008 - Cowl Prep for Priming |
||||||
Back to the cowl. The task now is to get it ready for priming. I cleaned up the air inlet area. Made the countersinkings a little deeper so the screw heads would be flush. |
||||||
I scuffed the cowl up with 320
sandpaper to improve primer adhesion. Then I applied Loehle
WonderFil to the cowl and spinner. The WonderFil is supposed to fill
up pinholes and scratches.
|
||||||
You wipe it on like car wax almost. It dries to a chalky white after 15 minutes or so. Then you just wipe it off.
Both cowl halves after applying the
WonderFil.

The WonderFil is a chalky, white substance.
You can see all the holes that are
now filled with the dried white
WonderFil.
|
||||||
I was surprised by how many holes and imperfections were in the cowl halves.

OK, now we're ready for priming.
