November 4, 2006 - Red Dragon Pre-Heater |
||||||
It was a beautiful day this Saturday. Perfect flying weather.
And there was a fly-in at Campbell Field -- a grass Strip on the
southern end of the Eastern Shore. I was supposed to meet the Trunk
Monkeys -- a bunch of Citabria drivers -- at Smyrna, Delaware, then fly
down as a group to the fly-in. Headed out to the airport, pre-heated
and fueled the Citabria, and then noticed I had a fuel leak around the
fuel gauge, which is at the right wing root. I tried tightening the
gauge but it was no go. So I missed a prime flying day. On the way home from the airport, I stopped at Harbor Freight and bought some stuff to make a cart for the Red Dragon pre-heater I had bought off E-Bay. It took me a couple of hours to make the below cart. I lit up the Red Dragon for the first time. It worked great. Pre-heating the Citabria (and RV-7 in the future) engines will be a piece of cake. |

There must have been a thousand black birds that swooped down and landed
in our backyard. Never seen anything like it.
