March 27&28, 2010 - Painting D-Day Stripes on the RV
Had a great form practice for Dragon flight early Saturday morning -- weather was a little cool but still excellent -- then started the laborious process of getting the RV ready for Sun 'N Fun. Last weekend Mike R. and I put the American insignia on the fuselage and wings. This weekend the goal was to paint the Invasion stripes on. The goal is something like this:
These pictures were taken at AirVenture 2009
Bruce and I spent the rest of Saturday taping the RV up, followed by some acid-etching and epoxy primer.
We were both pretty tired Saturday night.
| ||||||
Sunday morning we were back at the Skypark
and Bruce sprayed on the White topcoat.
It's going to look great!
I'm wrapping the black around the canopy rear.
Unfortunately it was a little cool, and the white wasn't drying very fast, so we couldn't risk taping over it. The black and clear coat will have to wait until another day.
I still have to take home the wheel pants and gear
fairings for some filling and then final painting.
I can't wait to see the RV with the insignia and stripes! Once the painting is done, I will do the first conditional inspection (i.e., annual).
