May 3, 2006 - Liquid Cooling System |

My Kitfox has a Rotax 582 engine. The 582 is liquid cooled which
means it has a radiator, fill tank, overflow tank and it all has to be
connected. Intially, I thought I could just run 1" radiator hose but
I soon realized that wouldn't work because a lot of sharp bends are
required. After a bunch of research, looking at other Kitfoxes and
in Rotax catalogs, I think I have the answer. I bought some aluminum
tube, 90 degree elbows and 1" hose.
The radiator is mounted on the belly. I ran aluminum tube from the radiator to the firewall. |

At the firewall, a 90 degree elbow routes the flow vertical.

The coolant inlet port on the right side of the engine was facing
forward. But I was able to take it off, turn it upside down, so
that the port faces aft. Then I put another 90 degree elbow on.
An aluminum tube will connect this elbow with the bottom elbow.

On the left side, I used four elbows to run the flow from the outlet port to the fill tank.
The left side of the radiator. Again, I used aluminum tube to run the flow to the firewall. I'm going to run another aluminum tube up the inside bottom of the firewall, then to the fill tank. I ran out of aluminum tube, so I'm on hold until I can get some more. Still, I feel pretty confident that I have solved the coolant pluming issue.
