June 21, 2008 - Manifold Pressure, Ground Strap, Ignition |
||||||
I really hadn't done my homework on
the ignition and manifold pressure systems yet. So I finally sat
down with the instructions and drawings and figured it out.
Diagramming the system out on a blank piece of paper really helps me
understand what is going on, and also provides an excellent reference for
the future.

Now that I understand the manifold pressure system, I started installing it. I realized I needed to trim off the lower right hand corner of the #3 baffle to install the MP fitting.
Then I figured out where I wanted the
MP hose fitting to attach to the firewall and drilled out a hole for
it. I put it to the leftof my wire passthrough.

I mounted the Dynon MP sensor on the other side of the firewall. The MP goes to the Dynon and the Lightspeed Ignition brainbox. But the Dynon takes a 1/4" id tube, and the Lightspeed takes a 1/8" id tube. And the MP fitting at the firewall is a 3/32" id tube! So I need to order a bunch of tube fittings before I can do anything more on the MP.
I hooked up the Ground cable that runs from the Grounding bolt on the firewall to the Engine. The braided strap that goes to the battery negative terminal also bolts here. I like the simple elegence of my grounding system -- almost everything grounds at the bus on the other side of the firewall.
The ground cable attaches to the
engine at one of the magneto mounting studs. The magneto is missing
since it was replaced by the Lightspeed.
|
||||||
Speaking of the Lightspeed, I trial-fit the two ignition wires that come out of the Lightspeed box and run to the Ignition coils on top of the engine.
The Lightspeed ignition wires run
through the right wire pass-through.
|
||||||
I need to order a bunch of terminals
so I can finalize my main alternator cable. However, I was able to
fashion the Field wire. I had to take the altnerator off to find the
Field wire attach point -- it was recessed in the back of the
alternator.
